Introduction

Peggy Lovelace Ellis

The ancient Chinese philosopher, Lao Tzu, said, “A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.” In the spring of 2010, The Writers’ Discussion Group took that first step toward publication of our fifth anthology. We, and some of our friends, gathered this collection of memoirs, travel, poetry, fiction, and miscellaneous meanderings for your enjoyment.

We remember people who were important in our lives, and we travel near and far. In our quiet times, we write our thoughts in poetic form and allow our imaginations to roam. At other times, we let our thoughts wander to humorous times, but we also meditate on more serious life issues including a devastating hurricane.

If something nibbles around the corners of your mind as you read A Beautiful Life and Other Stories, lean back, relax, and let your memory take you where it wants to go. You might find the memories sweeter than the actual occurrence.
